Wow Your Guests in Under 15 minutes

Chef Jenni’s 5 Spice Popcorn was voted #1 at the 2016 YXEats Cooking School; if it was possible to lick out a paper bag, participants would have gladly done so. It is decadent, deceptively easy to make and downright delish! Serve in parchment lined stainless pails with scoops and small paper bags to amp up the fun factor. Easily made in under 15 minutes.

Chef Jenni’s Five Spice Popcorn


2 cups popping corn
2/3 cup oil
1/2 cup salted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp Chinese Five Spice Powder.

To Make:

Heat oil in large pot until a test kernel placed inside pops. Add the rest of the kernels and place a lid on until you hear more "action". Wearing oven mitts, shake the pot over the burner every 30 seconds or so until all or most of the corn is popped. (Alternatively, use air popper to pop the corn but trust us, all that oil makes a big flavor difference)

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and add sugar, vanilla, salt and spices. Bring to a simmer until thickened and reduced, about 4 min.

Toss over popcorn and eat as is or bake in the oven at 350 for about 10 min, stirring once, for a crispier product.
